Silkscreen “Opus quadratum”.

Price range: 49,00€ through 149,00€

“Opus quadratum” is a construction system from Ancient Rome, in which stone blocks of the same height were laid in regular parallel courses, often without mortar. This construction technique was used by the Greeks and Romans from the 6th century BC onward, achieving increasing precision and accuracy in block cutting. This technique continued to be used throughout the Roman Empire, even after the introduction of mortar.

A good example of this construction system is the Aqueduct of Segovia. It is made of large, well-squared granite blocks, laid dry, without mortar. The finish is rough, although in some cases the joints are chamfered to create a rusticated effect and highlight the chiaroscuro.
