This map, designed by Diego Etcheverry for us, is a simplified graphic representation of the peninsula that is always with us. It follows its own hierarchical order, simplifying colors and symbology; yet, like any good map, it allows for a deeper reading through details and curiosities selected by the artist—reflecting his unique vision and resulting in a truly original interpretation. We hope you enjoy its details as much as we do.
As a point of interest, we share another, very different map—available for download from the National Geographic Institute’s website—which is an early printed map of Hispania from the edition of Ptolemy’s *Geographia* published in Rome in 1490. It is notable for the quality of its engraving; although not visible in the photograph, the map’s text was not hand-engraved onto the plate with a burin. Instead, the lettering was impressed using metal punches featuring raised characters, similar to those used to manufacture movable type for printing.
