The Gallery “Montón de Trigo Montón de Paja” is located in a typical XVII century Castilian building on Calle Juan Bravo, a lively street in the heart of the city centre.
The Gallery started its activities in 2003 with the First National Painting Festival “Montón de Trigo Montón de Paja”, for artists under 30 years old, aimed at promoting the Gallery in the Spanish artistic environment. A young artist from Salamanca, Noemí Sánchez Carralero, was awarded with the first prize of 3000 euros. Furthermore, the first edition of the Festival gave the Gallery a chance to meet and get in touch with many young artists who are constantly contributing to the Gallery’s collection thanks to the variety of their point of views.
More than 25 painting, sculpture and photography exhibitions have been held in the Gallery since its opening. Other activities include one poetry reading and prints of the artists exhibiting in the Gallery. Three different campaigns called “aveinte” (20 Euros), “aveintiuno” (21 Euros) and “avientidos” (22 Euros) were launched to promote small and cheap pieces of art among young people, support art collectors and strengthen the perception of a more accessible and affordable art.
The main interest of the Gallery is to support young artists and boost their careers by providing a platform and operation base aimed at helping them to breakthrough in the fascinating world of art.
